Sailor's Grunt (Haemulon parra)

Synonyms: Haemulon acutum, Haemulon albidum, Haemulon caudimacula, Haemulon chromis, Haemulon serratum, Haemulon canna, Diabasis parra, Sailor's Choice

 

 

 

Haemulon parra is distributed in the tropical and subtropical western Atlantic Ocean including Florida, the Bahamas, the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean Sea, along the South American coast to Santa Catarina, Brazil, and the Fernando do Noronha and Rocas Islands. Adults occur in open reefs, and juveniles usually associate with vegetated or rocky shallows; at depth 1-40 m. Up to 40 cm in total length. H. parra feeds on mollusks and other marine invertebrates.
